Alfred Biehler
Group Director: Systems Architecture
As director of systems architecture, Alfred is responsible for defining the company's strategy for platforms, development approaches and leading the overall engineering activities across the organisation. Alfred is also responsible for the definition of the architecture of all of the company's systems.
Before joining Cogent, Alfred spent ten years at Microsoft in the UK. His most recent role was Architect & Developer audience marketing manager where he was responsible for improving developer and architect perception and satisfaction. Before he worked in this role, he held various responsibilities at Microsoft in the UK including Google competitive strategy lead, Product Management (for Virtualisation, Systems management and Security products), Pre-sales consulting and architectural consulting. Before joining Microsoft, Alfred worked as a trainer and developer. He has also founded several of his own businesses in the past (the first one at the age of 6). Alfred holds Microsoft MCSE, MCSD and MCDBA certifications.
Alfred is originally from South Africa and he grew up in Namibia. When he isn't working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children as well as enjoying useful technology, watching Web 2.0 trends and business models, photography and music.
